On May 6th, students from our Special Education Program, SAPI, participated in a meaningful and enriching educational field trip to the University of Costa Rica (UCR). This carefully planned experience served as a powerful extension of the life skills curriculum, offering students the opportunity to apply what they have learned in real-world settings.

Throughout the day, our students practiced essential life competencies such as making informed food choices in a restaurant, navigating public transportation, exploring cultural spaces like a museum, interacting respectfully and effectively with tour guides, and sharing joyful moments with their peers. Each of these situations provided a platform for experiential learning—where theory met practice in a vibrant and supportive environment.

What made this tour particularly impactful was the thoughtful preparation that preceded it. For several weeks, our educators worked closely with students to equip them with the social and practical skills necessary for a successful outing. Emphasis was placed on respectful communication, appropriate behavior in public settings, and decision-making strategies—ensuring that students could approach each new situation with confidence and independence.

We are incredibly proud of our SAPI students for their enthusiastic participation and the grace with which they embraced each challenge. Experiences like this reaffirm our commitment to holistic education—one that empowers every learner to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

We are proud to announce that MCS secured first place in the prestigious Portuguese language competition, Competição Soletrando e Descobrindo o Brasil, held at Colegio Palabra de Vida. This exciting academic event combined a spelling bee with a cultural knowledge round, providing students with a dynamic and enriching experience in the Portuguese language.

Our team of twelve outstanding Secondary students, under the dedicated guidance of their Portuguese teachers Daisy Silva and Fernanda Gómez, demonstrated exceptional linguistic and cultural skills. Their performance reflected not only their hard work and preparation, but also their deep engagement with the third language taught at our institution—Portuguese.

We extend our sincere congratulations to our students, their families, and our faculty for this remarkable achievement. The support from our school community plays a vital role in fostering global competence and multilingual excellence among our learners.

At MCS, we are committed to offering a trilingual education—in Spanish, English, and Portuguese—that prepares our students for leadership and service in a globalized world. Competitions like these underscore the importance of cultural appreciation and academic excellence, which are core values of our educational mission.

At MCS, we remain committed to providing an environment that nurtures the physical, emotional, and spiritual development of every child entrusted to our care. We are therefore delighted to announce the official inauguration of our newly renovated Elementary Playground—a space designed to promote joy, creativity, physical activity, and fellowship among our youngest students.

This renovation project included several exciting improvements:

Brand-new playground equipment, offering a safe and engaging space for imaginative play.

Modern calisthenics structures, encouraging the development of strength, coordination, and active lifestyles.

Renewed artificial grass, creating a cleaner, safer, and more attractive surface for play.

New picnic tables, fostering community and fellowship during recess and outdoor learning activities.

Expanded sidewalks, enhancing accessibility and the overall aesthetic of the area.

These upgrades were made with the vision of providing our students with a space where they can thrive physically while enjoying the beauty of God’s creation in a secure and joyful environment.

We pray that this playground will be a place of laughter, friendship, and discovery for many years to come. Most importantly, we give all glory and thanks to God alone, who in His providence supplied the means and the people to make this vision a reality. Every blessing we enjoy as a school community is a testimony to His faithfulness.

To our MCS families, staff, and supporters—thank you for your continued prayers and encouragement. May this renewed space be a reflection of our ongoing commitment to excellence in Christian education.

Soli Deo Gloria.

At MCS, we are filled with gratitude to God as we mark the conclusion of our annual Christian Camps and Retreats. These special events have once again reminded us of the goodness and faithfulness of our Lord in every season.

Over the course of these days, our students were invited into an environment of reflection, growth, and deep spiritual engagement. One of the central themes explored was identity in Christ—a message foundational to our mission as a Christian educational institution. Through biblical teachings, worship, and guided devotionals, students were encouraged to reflect on the unchanging truth of who they are in God’s eyes, and how to build a strong, Christ-centered identity amidst the noise of the world.

There were also powerful moments of repentance, forgiveness, and reconciliation—not only between individuals and God, but also among classmates. We witnessed students humbling themselves, seeking healing, and restoring broken relationships through the grace of Jesus Christ. These instances were profound reminders of the transforming power of the Gospel.

Beyond the spiritual depth, students enjoyed a variety of challenging and exhilarating activities that fostered resilience, teamwork, and joy. From adrenaline-filled experiences like “Reto Selva” and the “Cuerdas Altas” (High Ropes Course), to energetic team competitions and recreational games, students were pushed out of their comfort zones, learning the value of perseverance, trust, and collaboration—all while having a great deal of fun.

These camps and retreats are not merely events on our calendar; they are deeply aligned with the heart of our mission and vision as a school. We believe in holistic education—one that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit, and which equips our students to live out their faith boldly, with integrity and conviction.

We thank God for every moment, every testimony, and every life touched. As a community, we rejoice in what He has done and look forward with hope and expectation to what He will continue to do in and through the lives of our students.

To God be the glory, now and always.

At Monterrey Christian School, the 10th Grade Bonfire Night is a cherished tradition. It reflects the heart of our community and the values we strive to instill in every student.

This special evening offers much more than a social event. In fact, it creates a sacred space for fellowship, gratitude, and spiritual reflection. Students come together under the stars to celebrate friendship, deepen their faith, and enjoy meaningful experiences.

Surrounded by nature and the warmth of the bonfire, our 10th graders engage in games, laughter, delicious food, and heartfelt worship. Each of these moments, intentionally planned, points their hearts back to God.

Moreover, the night gives students the chance to step away from academic routines. Instead, they focus on building stronger relationships—with classmates, teachers, and most importantly, with the Lord. As the evening unfolds, they share testimonies, pray together, and express thanks for God’s unchanging faithfulness.

In alignment with our Christ-centered mission, this event encourages both emotional and spiritual growth. Consequently, students reflect on their purpose, their identity in Christ, and the strength of Christian fellowship.

Whether roasting marshmallows, singing worship songs, or enjoying quiet conversations, each experience reinforces unity and trust. In addition, it reminds students of the joy found in walking with others who share their values and faith.

Without a doubt, this is one of the most anticipated events of the school year. The memories formed during Bonfire Night remain in the hearts of our students for years to come.

Cultivating a Culture of Intentional Discipleship at Monterrey Christian School

At Monterrey Christian School, we actively embrace the biblical mandate to make disciples. We believe discipleship shapes the very essence of the Christian life—not as a side activity, but as a central calling. To live out this conviction, we launched small group discipleship gatherings that focus on the Bible while using the book “Servants for His Glory” by Dr. Miguel Núñez as a learning guide.

This resource calls us to serve intentionally and to glorify God through community. Rather than isolate ourselves in today’s culture of individualism, we choose to pursue Christ-centered, relational discipleship that fosters genuine spiritual growth.

Many churches today struggle to provide intentional, life-on-life discipleship. While structured programs serve a purpose, they often fail to replace the transformative relationships that grow when believers walk closely together in faith. At Monterrey Christian School, we aim to develop a staff community where each man and woman not only receives discipleship but also commits to discipling others—in our school, in their local churches, and within their spheres of influence.

We believe this movement of intentional discipleship will extend far beyond our campus. As our staff members grow spiritually and model biblical mentoring, we expect to see a renewal of discipleship culture across churches in Costa Rica. Our desire is to see Christian leaders reignited with a passion for meaningful connection, theological depth, and the multiplication of mature followers of Christ.

“God’s purpose is not merely to save us, but to make us useful servants for His glory.”
– Dr. Miguel Núñez

At Monterrey Christian School, we are committed to providing our students with a Christ-centered education that not only nurtures their faith but also sharpens their minds through academic excellence. This week, our community was blessed with a remarkable opportunity to witness that vision come to life through the visit of Dave and Mary Jo Nutting, founders of the Alpha and Omega Institute and internationally recognized speakers and researchers in the field of Creation Science and great defenders of Creationism.

As a biologist and geologist, respectively, Dave and Mary Jo Nutting brought a wealth of scientific knowledge and decades of experience defending the biblical worldview. Their presentations to our students and staff were deeply engaging, intellectually rigorous, and spiritually enriching. The Nuttings led us through a wide range of scientific and historical evidence supporting the reliability of the Bible, particularly in the areas of:

🔬 Intelligent Design – Exploring the intricate complexity and purposeful design found in living organisms, which points decisively to an Intelligent Creator rather than random processes.

🌍 Geological Evidence of the Global Flood – Examining large-scale geological formations, fossil records, and sedimentary layers that strongly support the biblical account of a worldwide flood described in Genesis.

🏺 Archaeological Discoveries – Presenting key findings from archaeological sites that confirm the historical accuracy of the Scriptures, including civilizations, events, and people mentioned throughout the Bible.

The central message of their visit was clear and compelling: true science does not contradict the Bible—it confirms it. Contrary to the often-perpetuated myth of a conflict between faith and science, the Nuttings demonstrated how observable, testable scientific evidence aligns beautifully with the narrative of Scripture. Their presentations were not only informative but also a source of deep encouragement for all of us who seek to stand firm in our faith in an increasingly skeptical world.

This experience has had a profound impact on our school community. Students were encouraged to ask questions, think critically, and explore the natural world through a biblical lens. Teachers were equipped with resources and renewed confidence to integrate the truths of God’s Word with academic content in the sciences and humanities. This aligns directly with our mission to develop young people who love the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength.

We are grateful to the Alpha and Omega Institute for their ministry, and to Dave and Mary Jo Nutting for their faithful service in equipping the next generation to defend their faith with both conviction and reason. We encourage our entire school community to visit www.discovercreation.org to access their extensive library of resources, including articles, videos, and study materials that continue to explore the powerful harmony between biblical truth and scientific discovery.

At Monterrey Christian School, we believe that God is the Author of both Scripture and nature. As such, every legitimate scientific discovery ultimately leads us closer to understanding His divine nature and the wonders of His creation. This past week was a vivid reminder that our faith is not blind—it is deeply rooted in both revelation and reason.

We give thanks to God for this unforgettable experience and pray that it will bear fruit in the hearts and minds of our students for years to come.

We are excited to embark on a powerful new Devotional Series focused on the Book of Numbers where we will explore the complaints of Israel, God’s response to them, and how we can cultivate an attitude of gratitude in our daily lives.

Throughout this study, our students, faculty, and staff will engage with the narratives of Israel’s struggles and their frequent dissatisfaction despite God’s provision. By examining these biblical accounts, we will reflect on how we, too, sometimes fall into the habit of complaining, even when we are surrounded by God’s blessings.

What We Are Learning

The Complaints of Israel – The Israelites, despite witnessing God’s miraculous provision and deliverance, frequently complained about their circumstances. Their journey through the wilderness serves as a powerful lesson in faith, patience, and trust in God’s plan.

God’s Response – Throughout the Book of Numbers, God’s response to Israel’s complaints reveals both His justice and His mercy. He calls His people to holiness, obedience, and a deeper understanding of His divine purpose for their lives.

Our Attitude of Gratitude – Through these lessons, we will encourage our school community to develop a heart of thanksgiving. Gratitude is not just about saying “thank you” but about recognizing God’s hand in every situation and trusting His perfect timing.

Why This Matters

In today’s world, where it is easy to focus on what we lack rather than what we have, this devotional series serves as a timely reminder that gratitude transforms our perspective. When we focus on God’s faithfulness rather than our temporary struggles, we cultivate a spirit of contentment and joy.

As a Christian school, our goal is to instill biblical principles that shape not only academic excellence but also spiritual maturity. We invite students, teachers, and families to participate in discussions, prayer times, and reflections throughout this series.

Join Us in This Journey

We encourage our entire school community to dive into this study with open hearts and minds. Let us learn from Israel’s story, embrace God’s calling for holiness, and cultivate a spirit of gratitude that will impact our lives and those around us.

Stay connected as we share reflections, key takeaways, and testimonies from our students and staff. May this devotional series be a transformative experience for us all!

On Thursday 13th, Monterrey Christian School had the privilege of inaugurating the LAMP (Living According to the Master’s Plan) Program for 2025. LAMP is an exciting student-led initiative designed to inspire discipleship and create a vibrant community where the love of Christ can be shared. LAMP is not just a program; it is a movement born from the hearts of students passionate about spreading the Gospel and living out their faith with purpose and boldness.

The inaugural gathering welcomed 72 enthusiastic students who came together to worship, learn, and grow in their spiritual journey. The event was a powerful experience filled with meaningful moments of praise, prayer, and connection through God’s Word. With a heart for reaching others and deepening their relationship with Christ, students led their peers in worship through music and encouraged one another through prayer and Biblical reflection.

The LAMP Program will meet every two weeks, offering students the opportunity to grow as disciples and share the love of Jesus Christ within the school community and beyond. The program’s structure emphasizes key principles of Christian living:

Biblical Teaching – Rooted in Scripture, each gathering will include a time of reflection and study of God’s Word.

Worship and Praise – Music and worship are central to creating an atmosphere where students can connect with God and celebrate His goodness.

Prayer and Fellowship – Students are encouraged to support and pray for one another, building a Christ-centered community that fosters unity and spiritual growth.

Discipleship and Outreach – LAMP equips students with tools to grow in their faith and encourages them to live out the Great Commission by discipling others and sharing the Gospel.

We believe this initiative will have a lasting spiritual impact, empowering our students to walk boldly in their faith and be a light to others. At Monterrey Christian School, we are committed to cultivating an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and spiritually—grounded in God’s truth and guided by His plan.

As the Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 12:2, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.” This verse captures the heart of the LAMP Program as we seek to live according to the Master’s plan.

We are incredibly grateful for the students, faculty, and staff who are dedicating their time and talents to making LAMP a reality. We look forward to seeing how God will work through this initiative to transform lives and draw students closer to Him.

We encourage all members of our community to pray for the success of this program and the students involved. May LAMP be a beacon of light, guiding our school community to walk faithfully in the Lord’s plan.
