At MCS, we are immensely proud to announce the outstanding participation of our MCS High School delegation in the national-level robotics and technology competition — the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2025! This phenomenal achievement reflects the very essence of our educational philosophy: integrating cutting-edge technology with strong, faith-based values. For Christian families across Costa Rica seeking a bilingual, values-based education that truly prepares their children for global leadership, this is definitive proof of the excellence nurtured within our halls.
En NASA Space Apps Challenge is the world’s largest annual hackathon, bringing together thousands of people to use NASA’s open data to solve real-world problems on Earth and in space. Our students embraced this daunting challenge with enthusiasm, intelligence, and deep reserves of teamwork. Therefore, their success is not just about technology; it’s about character, perseverance, and the application of wisdom—qualities we prioritize daily at MCS.
The Spirit of Innovation: Solving Global Challenges
En NASA Space Apps Challenge 2025 is renowned for demanding swift innovation and practical solutions under intense time pressure. This event serves as an ultimate test of interdisciplinary skills, requiring students to blend coding, design, project management, and scientific research—all while collaborating effectively. This environment mirrors the real-world scenarios our students will encounter in university and their professional careers.
MCS faculty members believe that true learning occurs when students are given meaningful, complex problems to solve. During this competition, our students demonstrated their ability to:
- Analyze Complex Data: They utilized real, publicly available data from NASA’s satellites and missions.
- Design and Prototype Solutions: They moved from concept to functional website and application prototypes in a matter of hours.
- Present and Defend Their Work: They articulated their technical solutions clearly and compellingly to a panel of expert judges.
This remarkable achievement reflects the spirit of innovation, teamwork, and excellence that defines our educational community and makes the MCS approach to technology unique.

Meet the Innovators: MCS Teams and Their Groundbreaking Projects
We had two extraordinary teams represent MCS, tackling diverse and significant challenges presented by NASA. Their projects not only showcased advanced technical skills but also demonstrated thoughtful, creative problem-solving rooted in a desire to contribute positively to the world.
Team 1: Bioloop – Sustainable Life on Mars
Congratulations to the talented team of Jimena C., Elizabeth L., Josué A., and Damián H. Their project, Bioloop, focused on a core challenge of long-term space exploration: creating sustainable, closed-loop biological systems for potential Martian habitats.
- Project Focus: Developing a proof-of-concept for recycling resources and maintaining ecological balance in a challenging off-world environment.
- Technical Skill: The team utilized web development languages to build a clear, interactive prototype interface, demonstrating proficiency in data visualization and front-end development. You can explore their work and technical execution here: Bioloop Project Website
- The MCS Connection: This project embodies the principle of stewardship—a key MCS value. They approached the challenge with a respect for the environment and a focus on sustainability, reflecting our Christian commitment to caring for creation, whether on Earth or potentially on other planets.
Team 2: PcJ – AstroImpact – Protecting Our Planet
A hearty congratulations also goes to Sebastián B., Mattías J., and Daniel M. for their impressive project, PcJ – AstroImpact. Their work addressed a vital near-Earth concern: tracking and mitigating the threat of potentially hazardous asteroids and space debris.
- Project Focus: Creating a dynamic, informative resource that uses NASA data to calculate and visualize the potential risk and impact of Near-Earth Objects (NEOs).
- Technical Skill: This team delivered a polished, professional website that combines complex data algorithms with an accessible, user-friendly design. Their platform is a testament to sophisticated data integration. View their finished product here: PcJ – AstroImpact Website
- The MCS Connection: The motivation behind AstroImpact is the protection of life and the environment. This aligns perfectly with the MCS mission to foster responsible global citizenship. We teach our students that their talents are given to serve others and safeguard what God has entrusted to us (1 Peter 4:10).

Beyond Code: The Pillars of MCS Success
The excellence displayed at the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2025 is not merely a measure of technical aptitude; it’s a reflection of the holistic, values-driven education provided at MCS. We recognize that true success requires more than just academic knowledge.
This is what makes the MCS difference:
- Bilingual Excellence: Our students navigated technical documentation and communication entirely in English, proving the fluency and confidence instilled by our rigorous bilingual program. This competency opens doors to international collaboration and global opportunities like the NASA Challenge.
- Character Development: In a high-pressure competition like this, students learned perseverance, humility in the face of setbacks, and the power of ethical collaboration. The values learned in our character education classes translate directly into integrity and resilience during crunch time.
- Dedicated Mentorship: A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated teachers who spend countless hours mentoring, guiding, and inspiring these young minds. They are key pillars in this success, demonstrating their own dedication and commitment to the academic and personal growth of every student.
Show Your Support: Encourage Our Future Leaders!
We urge our entire MCS community and prospective Christian families to celebrate the hard work and national representation of our High School students. Your support means the world to these young innovators and helps demonstrate the value of their achievements.
Invest in Excellence and Character
The participation of our students in the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2025 confirms that MCS is uniquely preparing the next generation of Christian leaders—ones who are technically proficient, strategically minded, and ethically grounded.
